A Classic Trio
2017 Merlot, Oakville Station
This is a charming yet powerful expression of Merlot, from a world-class vineyard and a classic vintage. Bold aromas of black licorice, vanilla, and spice lift out of the glass with each swirl. Soft and juicy on entry with ripe red and black fruit at the core. The bright fruit and balanced acidity make this a terrific partner with food, but it can also stand proudly on its own. The tannins are chewy yet smooth and lush, lingering with layers of fruit and spice.
2017 Cabernet Franc, Oakville Station
Ample and generous aromas of black berry, black cherry and dark chocolate. A hint of sweet vanilla and some dried herb provide complexity. As the aromas evolve in the glass, this Cabernet Franc expresses its hedonistic California style. Smooth and round on entry, the fruit-focused core supports a complex blend of blackberry and red current flavors then turns to ripe summer fruit and sweet dried herbs, with just a touch of floral. Lush and full-bodied, the layers of savory herbs and allspice on the finish gives way to supple tannins and a lingering finish. Incredibly approachable now, but give it some time in the cellar, if you can.
2018 Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville Station
From the first swirl of your glass, you’ll know this is a special Cabernet from the heralded Oakville Station vineyard. Flamboyant aromas of boysenberry, plum and blackberry are intertwined with baking spice and cedar. Full bodied and rich on entry, the generous fruit-focused core offers ripe black fruit flavors that open up to layers of spice, tobacco and a hint of cacao. Both elegant and powerful, the tannins on the finish are youthful yet integrated, lingering with a bit of minerality and balanced acidity. Approachable now, but it will be worth the wait if you can set it aside for a few years.
